This is the 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine de Launay Horiot, a small yet exceptional Burgundy producer known for crafting wines with both precision and depth. Coming from one of the most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, this wine exemplifies the power and elegance that Chambertin is revered for. Chambertin is one of the most historic Grand Cru sites in Gevrey-Chambertin, often referred to as the ‘King of Burgundy.’ The vineyard’s limestone-rich soils and eastern exposure give rise to wines that balance muscular tannins with fine aromatics and remarkable aging potential.
2018 was a warm, generous vintage in Burgundy, producing wines with ripe fruit, soft structure, and early approachability—yet with enough backbone to age gracefully. Launay Horiot’s take on this vintage shows refined structure and poise, layered with dark cherry, spice, and earthy minerality. Launay Horiot produces very limited quantities, and this Chambertin is a rare find, especially from a rising, detail-driven domaine like this. It’s a cellar-worthy collector’s bottle, but already showing beautifully with a bit of air.
