Fermented Grape Juice (FGJ) was founded in 2013 by a group of partners who are completely infatuated with wine. Wine started off as a hobby in 90s, grew into a passion in the 2000s and finally into a business…..we have not looked back since.

Besides drinking wine, our greatest passion lies in spreading the stories of wine, sharing our knowledge with customers, as well offering guidance on wine pairing selection. Ultimately, we hope our customers benefit from our passion by becoming more discerning buyers of wines and spirits.

We pride ourselves on offering expert wine advice (all our advisors are wine-certified), competitive pricing, hassle-free ordering, and an overall pleasant customer experience.

We also make a special effort to store our wines in a temperature-controlled environment, as we know that provenance affects the manner in which wines evolve and taste. We don’t look for shortcuts in delivering wines to you, as all our deliveries are point-to-point, from our storage direct to your door. In the Malaysian heat, this is a big deal and we want you to know we got it covered!

Choong
Partner, Wine Geek

Choong’s passion for wine began in Perth, Western Australia where he spent his teenage years growing up amongst some of the finest wines produced in the Southern Hemisphere – Margaret River.

Upon returning to Malaysia after graduating from business school, he pursued a corporate career for 15 years that allowed him to be amongst wine regularly; again, he feels blessed that the perks of international corporate travel and corporate entertaining provided him to opportunity to feed his passion for wines. In 2012, work brought him to live in California for a year and he spent 2 weekends every month roaming vineyards in Napa, Sonoma and the Santa Rita Hills. Now as part of Fermented Grape Juice, he gets to make a living from what he enjoys most – wine!

He continues to travel extensively for wine, making a point to visit different industry events and wineries yearly; Choong is also currently pursuing his WSET Level 3, all these form part of his continuous education in wines. His favourite wines change seasonally, at the moment, it is Old & New World Pinot Noir, Pomerol, Chardonnay and Northern Italian aromatic whites. In his free time, he likes exploring lesser-known wines, new food pairings and wine travel.

Shien
Wine & Spirits Advisor, Resident Somm

Shien developed his passion for wine in 2010 during his Bachelors of International Hospitality Management at Taylor’s University. Eager to build on his then newfound love for wines, he pursued and completed his Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 in 2012, on top of his demanding schedule during his Bachelors including Beverage Studies and Oenology Studies.

Upon graduation in 2013, he started as a management trainee at a 5-Star hotel in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Upon completing that stint, Shien was convinced that he wanted to spend his life in the wines and spirits, so he signed on after his apprenticeship and began a grueling 5 year stint that eventually took him to the management position where his main responsibilities were selecting and curating the beverage list for the hotel, including the honour of guarding the Hotel’s prized fine wine cellar.

As part of his never-ending thirst for wine knowledge, he completed his WSET Level 3 in 2017 (which makes him a serious sommelier – no mean feat!). Thereafter, Shien became qualified with the WSET organization to educate and certify new candidates sitting for WSET Level 1 and Level 2. At Fermented Grape Juice, Shien spends his time advising customers on pairings, selection and organising wine events for its wine members. His favourite wines are Barossa Shiraz and Left-Bank Bordeaux, Burgundian whites and Gewurtzraminer.

Janice Woon
Administrator, Customer Service & Logistics

Janice has the most important task at FGJ, she is responsible for processing all the orders that come in and then fulfilling it in an effective manner – so you get your wines at the right temperature, at the place you want it and at the time you need it! She also handles all administrative matters so that our office runs smoothly, she is the engine of the team!

Before joining FGJ, Janice worked at a large Oil and Gas multinational in back-office where she processed contracts and preceding that, she worked as a travel consultant at Holiday Tours ensuring customers got the best travel deals and liaising with stakeholders to arrange their itineraries.

In her free time, she loves watching Korean movies and drinking a bold, full flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon from the Coonawara.
