Terreus Paraje de Cueva Baja is a red wine from an estate produced by Bodegas Mauro at the hands of Mariano García, known as oenologist for Vega Sicilia for almost thirty years. Terreus is a single variety Tempranillo, grown in a small instalment, barely three hectares, where the vines are old and planted in loose sandy-clay soil.
Bodegas Mauro practices an ecological agriculture without using any type of herbicide with a maximum respect for the local faunas and the nature reserves of the vineyard. The harvest is done by hand and the grapes are transported to the winery in small 15kg crates. Once in the winery, a careful selection is performed in order to discard the bunches that are not in good condition. Once they have been selected, the grapes are transferred by gravity to the deposits where they undergo a fermentation with local yeasts from their own vines. Terreus undergoes an aging for 33 months in French oak barrels that supports the fineness and exceptional harmony.
Explosive, ripe and seductive on the nose, with potent, oak-laced blackberry, cassis, raspberry and cherry liqueur-like intensity to the fruit aromas, along with some suave floral accents and suggestions of cigar box, exotic chocolate and smoky bacon; this smells like the Platonic gourmet shop.
