Nose: Oil lamps, dusky peat, sea salt, sea shells, brine, oysters and a host of other maritime hints. Tarry ropes, slight barley sweetness followed by camphor, wet wool, malt, grist and oak.
Palate: Robust, sweet yet spicy with a lick of maritime and dusky peat. Sea salt, pitch, oysters and driftwood. Oak, slight cinnamon to round things off.
Finish: Long and lingering, with the peat and oily, maritime notes bringing things to a close.
Croftengea is the peated expressions of the The Loch Lomond distillery. The original distillery held a set of pot stills with rectifying plates in their necks (also known as Lomond stills), allowing different flavour streams to be produced. Many more Lomond still additions later, it now has the capability to produce 11 different distillates for its whisky brands (not including the spirit coming from Glen Scotia). Wine yeasts have also been used to help create different flavours. In many ways it is more akin to a Japanese approach to distilling than a Scottish one. Loch Lomond has produced a range of single malt brands, including Inchmurrin, Inchmoan, Inchfad, Old Rosdhu, Croftengea and Craiglodge.
