Chateau Jean Faux is located in the village of Sainte Radegonde on south-west facing slopes overlooking its more well-known neighbours in Saint Emilion and Castillon. His consultant winemaker is Stéphane Derenoncourt, who has worked for prestigious Bordeaux estates such as Domaine de Chevalier, Clos Fourtet, Clos de l’Oratoire, Smith Haut Lafitte, and in California for Francis Ford Coppola’s Rubicon Estate Winery. Under the guidance of Stephane Derenoncourt since 2003, the Chateau has gone from strength to strength paying meticulous attention to detail in both vineyard and winery, using a using a more “hands on” approach. The property has been organic since 2011 and as of 2015 is certified biodynamic.
On the nose, fresh and offers tension. It reveals notes of fresh zest, juicy citrus and a little bit of distinguished minerality as well as fine hints of fresh berries, gunflint and a discreet touch of fresh passion fruit. On the palate, fruity and offers juiciness, minerality, some fat, roundness and a little acidity. The wine expresses notes of Spanish lime, lychee and more slightly passion fruit associated with touches of citrus (tangerine, lemon) as well as fine peach blossom. Good length.
