Château Lagrange in Pomerol was bought by Jean-Pierre-Moueix (who also owns Château Pétrus, Château Trotanoy and Château Magdelaine) in 1953. The 9 hectare cru is located on the famous Pomerol plateau next to a church, where the soil is gravel-rich – the vineyards have recently been replanted and now comprises of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc vines. The grapes are hand-harvested and then fermented in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. The wine is then aged in small oak barrels (30% new) for 18 months before being lightly fined and then bottled.
This Château Lagrange Pomerol 2000 is a full-bodied, complex red wine from the renowned Pomerol appellation in Bordeaux. The nose is full of ripe black fruit such as blackberry and plum, with a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is smooth, with silky tannins and a long, lingering finish. Rich and layered, with subtle complexity and a wonderful balance of fruit and acidity. An excellent expression of Pomerol, this is a wine to savor and is ready to drink.
